Collective Improvisation in the Moment
The second half of the concert brought an exciting new dimension to the evening. Mateusz Rybicki was joined by Piotr Damasiewicz on organ, Justyna Miguła on violin and vocals, and Ignacy Caputa on drums. Together, they created an expansive collective improvisation shaped by attentive listening, intuition, and spontaneous musical dialogue. Without a predetermined structure, the performance evolved organically, carrying the audience through constantly shifting layers of sound, emotion, and interaction. It was an immersive experience that highlighted the power of artistic collaboration and celebrated improvisation as a unique form of communication through music.
A Clarinet Beyond Boundaries
The evening began with a captivating one-hour solo clarinet recital—an intensely personal musical narrative built on free improvisation and a constant search for new forms of expression. Moving effortlessly between free jazz, ethnic music influences, and elements of contemporary classical music, Mateusz Rybicki created a rich and multidimensional soundscape filled with tension, subtlety, and emotion. The audience experienced the remarkable versatility of the clarinet through extended playing techniques and unconventional approaches to sound production. One of the most memorable moments came from the artist's experimental use of water as part of his sound-making process, revealing entirely new sonic possibilities and demonstrating how limitless a single instrument can become in the hands of a visionary improviser.
