Conversations on the Green Sofa

A highlight of the evening was the artist talk hosted by Justyna Miguła as part of Listening and Sounding Gallery's signature "Green Sofa" conversation series. In this relaxed and welcoming format, Irek Głyk reflected on his artistic journey, creative inspirations, personal values, and decades of performing on stages across Poland and abroad. The discussion explored improvisation as both a musical practice and a way of thinking, offering fascinating insights into his creative process and the development of his latest solo repertoire. Audience members were invited to join the conversation, ask questions, and engage directly with the artist, making the meeting both inspiring and deeply personal.

An Improvised Journey Through Sound

During his solo recital, Irek Głyk presented a program built around free improvisation, interwoven with familiar jazz themes and timeless standards. Each musical piece unfolded naturally, guiding the audience through a rich landscape of colors, textures, and emotions unique to the vibraphone. His remarkable virtuosity was matched by his ability to reveal the instrument's extraordinary expressive range. Throughout the performance, Głyk also shared fascinating insights into the history of the vibraphone, its construction, and the techniques behind its distinctive sound, giving listeners a deeper appreciation of this remarkable instrument. The evening became an inspiring journey into the worlds of sound, creativity, and musical imagination.

A Master of the Vibraphone at Listening and Sounding Gallery

On April 2, 2026, Listening and Sounding Gallery had the pleasure of welcoming Irek Głyk—one of Poland's most acclaimed jazz vibraphonists, an outstanding drummer, composer, educator, and a Berklee College of Music scholarship recipient. The evening offered a rare opportunity to experience an artist who has spent decades developing his own distinctive musical language, seamlessly blending jazz, classical music, and the art of improvisation. The intimate setting of the gallery created the perfect atmosphere for a close connection between artist and audience, making the concert about much more than music—it became a shared experience built on dialogue, emotion, and genuine artistic exchange.
